A question that is often asked is, “Where do Hindūs get their morals from?” It is a question for non-Hindūs, since it is not based on Abrahamic beliefs, nor is it based on modern/Bollywood culture. Rather, Hindūs rely on scriptural authority, “regulative principles,” experiences, and messages of past masters. This gives rise to a more nuanced understanding of how we are to think, act, and live in an adaptive manner, in contrast to a pre-cut “by the rule-book” following with limited flexibility, and in contrast to an “anything-goes” ethos of modern society.
