Essential Questions In The Hindu Tradition – A Talk By Sankrant Sanu

In these difficult times, Shri Sankrant Sanu talks about the three essential quests in the Hindu tradition, and then takes us through ‘Pranayama’ and guided meditation.

The Indic civilization has had rich history of Kshatriya traditions which gave rise to equally rich and profound martial traditions like the Sanatan Shastra Vidya, which literally means the ‘timeless science of weapons.’

This ancient art of battle is traced back to Adi Deva Shiva who gave this knowledge to Pashupats, from whom it passed on to Kapaliks, Nagavanshis, Suryavanshis and subsequently to Rajputs, Naths, Sikhs, Marathas, Jats and other martial communities of India. Guru Nidar Singh Nihang, gives us a fascinating account of how Shastra Vidya flourished in India till the arrival of the British, who not only banned possession of weapons but subdued and suppressed all native martial traditions and systematically laid them to waste.

This Talk by Dr. Pankaj Jain which focusses on the Bishnoi/Vishnoi community that is spread through out Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh is very interesting study of the Environmental History of a particular Dharmic community. He explains in detail how this community really takes care of their flora and fauna even in the desert regions which are quite prone to droughts. The main feature of their culture being Water harvesting, Tree plantation, setting up animal and bird sanctuaries in desert, guided by their Gurus based on Vedic philosophy of Aham Brahmasmi and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

Maria Wirth’s book “Thank You India” is a tribute to India and its wisdom. Maria Wirth came to India in 1980 on a stop over and got drawn into a seeker’s journey. Searching for truth and encountering the many remarkable men and women from Sai Baba to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, from Anandamayi Ma to Amma, she records her close personal encounters and experiences in this book. Her journey takes us to secluded and unknown yogis in the Himalayas and to the famous gurus. But her real journey is the inner voyage to Yoga or union, a union with the Self.
